Duties

Under the direct supervision of the Marine Security Guard (MSG), with liaison to the Motor Pool regarding time, attendance, and overtime, the Chauffeur (MSG) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of U.S. Government-owned or leased motor vehicles to transport passengers and/or cargo. The incumbent operates fully armored Government-Owned Vehicles (GOVs) within the city of Yaoundé and its environs, including areas presenting risks associated with civil conflict and security threats, and performs messenger duties as directed.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Chauffeur Responsibilities: As one of MSG chauffeurs, receives work assignments from MSG personnel and operates Embassy vehicles in support of MSG official activities. Assumes duty driver responsibility on a rotational basis, which may require trips outside Yaoundé. Maintains vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition, including interior and exterior cleaning, and performs basic vehicle inspections in accordance with established schedules, reporting any discrepancies to the MSG. Prepares trip reports, vehicle use logs, and fuel logs, and estimates fuel consumption for trips. Safeguards U.S. Government property and promotes the efficient, fuel-conscious use of Government resources.

 

Armored Vehicle Responsibilities: Operates a fully armored vehicle (FAV) to transport MSG personnel in light of dangers associated with civil conflict and security threats in the country. Reacts defensively to potential security-related situations and remains current on restricted or dangerous areas to be avoided by MSG personnel.

 

Messenger/Administrative Responsibilities and Others: Handles pickup and delivery of mail, cargo, and documents as assigned. Assists with verbal, unofficial translation when MSG personnel are out in the city.

Qualifications and Evaluations

Requirements:

All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:

 

• • Security certificate; or

 

• • Public Trust – background investigation security clearance.

 

All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

Completion of Elementary school is required.

Qualifications:

Experience:  A minimum of three (3) years of professional driving experience is required. Experience must have been with an international organization, large institution, or automative fleet company.

 

Language: Limited Knowledge written and spoken in English and French. This may be tested.

 

Job Knowledge:  Must have a good working knowledge of the city and its environs, including driving routes and traffic patterns. Must be familiar with the location of hospitals, police and fire stations within the city and its immediate surroundings. Knowledge of in-country travel routes and areas. General awareness of the general political climate in the country related to protests, conflicts, kidnappings, threats, demonstrations, and riots in the different regions of the country.

 

Skills And Abilities:  Must hold a valid and legally obtained Cameroonian driver’s license (Category B-C-D).  Operates level C or D armored vehicle with defensive driving skills.  Must have the ability to read maps and plan driving routes.  Must have basic computer skills to maintain reports and for communication purposes.   Must have good verbal communication skills, and an ability to handle all persons with professionalism and discretion.  Must be able to perform basic vehicle inspection and must possess intermediate level automotive maintenance skills.

This may be tested.

For Selected Applicants:

HR Office will send a Conditional Offer with the security certification and medical clearance requirements.

The security certification is a 2–4-month process and is done by the Regional Security Office (RSO), who will contact the applicant once he/she completes the requirements provided with the Conditional Offer.

The medical clearance is covered by the U.S. Embassy, and will be completed by the applicant separately, during the security certification process.

Once HR Office receives the medical clearance and the security certification, the applicant will receive a Formal Offer with an agreed start date.
