Ngek Constantine Jumbam Scholarship Fund

OVERVIEW

One of the most devastating consequences of the Anglophone crisis has been its impact on the education of the youth in the North West and South West Regions. According to UNICEF, two out of three schools have been closed in the NW and SW regions of Cameroon. As a result close to 700,000 students have been shut out of school, many since the crisis began in 2016. It has also been observed that children who have been affected by the anglophone crisis face a significant likelihood of being recruited into the war, facing gender-based voilence, child abuse, and child labour.

Named after Mr. Ngek Constantine Jumbam, this scholarship fund has been created by the Jumbam Family Foundation to offer educational opportunities for students in the NW and SW who have been affected by the Anglophone crisis.

What the scholarship offers

Full tuition and accommodation: We have partnered with Montessori English Secondary and High School (MESHS) based in Santchou in the Western Region of Cameroon for this scholarship. All scholars will receive automatic admission to attend MESHS on a full scholarship. This scholarship will cover the costs of tuition and fees, books and full boarding for up to two years.

Mentorship: Furthermore the scholarship will offer mentorship and career guidance opportunities to all scholars. Each scholar will be paired with a mentor with whom they will meet regularly to discuss academic and career opportunities as well as challenges that the scholars may be facing. Guidance counseling including support with University and scholarship applications will also be provided to the scholars through our trusted partners.

Mental Health Support: We recognize that many students who have been impacted by the Anglophone crisis may experience mental health trauma that may hinder their ability to fully engage in their studies. We therefore plan to offer mental health counseling to students in need of trauma counseling or mental health support.
